Retro-inspired action game John Mambo explodes onto Indiegogo

Posted on March 2, 2018

Nostalgic for the cheesy over-the-top American action movies of the 1980s and 90s? So is Iction Games, a Spain-based development studio, which has launched an Indiegogo campaign for their first major release, John Mambo,  with an initial goal of  €15,000.

John Mambo is a retro-inspired isometric shooter, drawing from action movies such as Rambo, as well as gameplay inspirations from classic action games, including Metal Slug and Ikari Warriors. In the game, you play as the titular John Mambo, a man on a one-man mission to pacify the world the only way he knows how: blowing stuff up, either alone or in local co-op.

The game’s sense of humour appears to be very much tongue-in-cheek, acknowledging how silly its particular genre of action is whilst also having fun with blowing up as many enemy goons as possible with high-powered weaponry.

The campaign is set to run for 30 days, starting on March 1st. The game will initially be launched on Windows, Mac and Linux, with ports for Xbox One and PS4 allocated as potential stretch goals. Those who back the game on Indiegogo can unlock a variety of backer rewards at different tiers, including a digital copy of the soundtrack, exclusive John Mambo T-shirts, and even a John Mambo-themed VHS box cover.

If all this sounds like something you would like to support, feel free to check out Iction Games‘ Indigogo page here, as well as watch the trailer down below.
