Sea of Thieves has released today, and I cannot believe the news I am about to share. In what must be the greatest marketing idea I’ve ever come across, Xbox Australia/New Zealand have partnered with Australian pirate band Captain Hellfire & The Wretched Brethren to create the world’s first ‘Sing us a Shanty’ service!
“As part of the service, everyday Australians and New Zealand fans will be able to get their very own pirate shanties while they play online via Xbox Live with the band,” says Xbox ANZ. “The shanties will be broadcast live via Mixer, Facebook and Twitch during the weekend after launch for others to join in with the adventure.”
The event will take place on the 24th and 25th of March, and tickets are available TOMORROW on a first-come, first-serve basis for fans. Each pirate shanty will be unique to each player, and will be based on the adventures and stories created by gamers in the Sea of Thieves multiplayer world.
Jeremy “Harbinger” Hinton, Captain of Xbox Australia, says the following:
“Sea of Thieves is already such an immersive game by design, so it’s only fitting we give fans the chance to get their very own shanties from a real-life pirate band. We’re really looking forward to seeing and hearing the tales of adventure on high seas, shanties and treasured stories created between players and the band.”
Imagine a real pirate band singing about your feats of piracy on the high seas of Sea of Thieves! I hope I get a song made about my ship being ripped apart by the Great Kraken… something tells me it would make for an epic tune.
Tickets are available through Eventbrite, and you can keep an eye on the Xbox ANZ Facebook page for more details on how to book your Sing us a Shanty session.
