The newest Splatoon 2 update (Version 3.0.0) is now available on Nintendo Switch with a heap of new content for players. The update includes the introduction of a new X Rank for high-performing players in the Ranked Battle mode as well as 100 new pieces of gear, and the usual weapon balancing. Version 3.0.0 also sees the return of Callie, one of the famous Squid Sisters and announcers of the first Splatoon game.
X Rank is a highly challenging experience for the Ranked Battle mode, focused on targeting the highest-performing players. Every player currently ranked as S+10 in Splatoon 2 will automatically move up to X Rank after downloading the update. Players in X Rank will battle for an X Power level and will be matched with other players with similar X Power levels. Once every month, the 500 players with the highest X Power level for each of the four Ranked Battle modes will be announced in the SplatNet2 section of the Nintendo Switch Online mobile app.
X Power levels will be reset each month and players with an X Power level below a certain point will drop back down to S+9, to encourage players to keep playing and improving their skills. The first X Power reset will occur on May 31st and every subsequent reset will take place on the first day of the month, starting July 1st. These resets will also feature an 8-stage rotation, with 2 stages rotating every 2 hours, as well as new stages and weapons being introduced to Splatoon 2. The first stage in this rotation is the popular Camp Triggerfish, alongside four new weapons.
The new Splatoon 2 update provides 100 additional pieces of gear, including some returning pieces from the first Splatoon. Additional soundtracks are also included within the update. In addition, Callie will now start appearing in Tentakeel Outpost within Octo Canyon, once players have met a certain condition. Callie will provide the player with their character’s recent multiplayer stats.
