Have you ever wanted to play as a dung beetle pushing a ball of, well, dung… around a colourful island paradise? Well, if so, now’s your chance! Yoku’s Island Express, from developer Villa Gorilla and publisher Team 17, is a delightfully colourful title that sees you flipping and bumping your pint-sized protagonist around a hand-painted island on a quest to “rebuild the post-office and wake an old god from its deep slumber”. If that doesn’t sound like a good time, I don’t know what does!
Check out the latest trailer below.
Villa Gorilla describes Yoku’s Island Express as an open world/metroidvania pinball adventure. Some of the game’s features are detailed below:
- Genre combining open world pinballing
- Unique beautifully handpainted artwork
- An island filled with unique creatures, both big and small
- Action-packed nonlinear gameplay that awards exploration
Additionally, the developer says that, ” Yoku’s Island Express is a unique and quirky adventure with handcrafted visuals, where you’ll soar through the air, vacuum explosive snails, fight a Screetch, feed starving lemurs, discover the mystery of the Fruit Altar, wake an old god, and hopefully help tiny Yoku rebuild the island post-office”.
If you, like me, are now super interested in this little gem, you’ll be pleased to know the release date is right around the corner. Yoku’s Island Express lauches on PS4, Xbox One, and Switch on June 15, 2018.
