There’s no denying that when it comes to big franchises, Fortnite is currently dominating the gaming world, while Marvel is dominating the world of cinematic movie heroes. So what could be better than those two powerhouses teaming up? Cue Fortnite X Avengers: Infinity War.
In what was clearly now no coincidence, Fortnite launched its superhero themed season in sync with the launch for Marvels’ Avengers: Infinity War which at the time also included the debut of original heroes and villains to the Fortnite game like Carbide and Omega. At this early stage I feel very few players felt there was any connection to the Marvel Universe let alone a crossover in the works. But all that changed when Epic Games announced via their Twitter account on May 7th that “The battle begins tomorrow…”

The above image which features both Omega and Thanos instantly sent fans into a frenzy, however it was EW (Entertainment Weekly) that got the big scoop on this exciting mash-up, with an exclusive from Avengers: Infinity War co-directors Joe and Anthony Russo. In an interview with EW the duo let it be known that just like all of us they are massive Fortnite fans and Joe even said “Over the past few months, while we were editing Infinity War, we’d take breaks to hop on and get in a few games. And then we started thinking, how cool would it be to have some kind of Avengers–Fortnite mashup? So we stalked Donald.”
The Donald they are talking about would be none other than Donald Mustard, the worldwide creative director of Epic Games. Donald said “Out of the blue, I get this call from Joe. And after a bit of geeking out over each other’s work, we start brainstorming these crazy ideas. It was really important that whatever we did, it had to be super authentic to both Fortnite and the Avengers: Infinity War, and something that fans of both would be excited about. About an hour later, we had the bones of this awesome idea for a limited time gameplay mode, and almost immediately our team got started.”
Fortnite X Avengers Infinity War will be a limited time mode where allegedly you’ll be able to find the Infinity gauntlet somewhere on the map, turning you into Thanos to rain down fury on your opponents… in what way specifically we don’t know yet, but if you’re keen to get your mits on Thanos’s Infinity Gauntlet then the new mode is set to launch today the 8th of May with the the V.4.1 update.
It will be free across all platforms capable to partake in Battle Royale friendly play which means there’s only one thing left to know: Are you ready to wield the power of the Infinity stones?
