3 weeks ago, I posted an article on the decline of John Bain’s (aka TotalBiscuit, Cynical Brit’s) health. Medications were failing to help, and he was facing down the reality of not having much time left. As of May 24, 2018, John Bain has passed away.
The announcement rang out over Gemma Bain’s (John’s wife’s) Twitter.
Rest in Peace my Dearest Love

As some will know this is merely the conclusion of a long battle. Bain was diagnosed with bowel cancer in May of 2014. The cancer went into remission for some time due to his chemotherapy treatments. But, it returned, attacking his liver and spine. Chemotherapy stopped being effective. Eventually his liver issues were so great he was denied access to the clinical trials. This was his main contingency, so he was aware of how finite his time likely was.
It is not certain what will become of his YouTube, Twitch and podcast, only that he was training his wife, Gemma, to run them. The hope being upon his departure that his wife would take these over, leaving his family with a source of income. Only time will tell how all this will go, but of course, we wish John’s friends and family all the best in his absence.
News of his death has of course sent a shock-wave of emotions amongst the online gaming community. He has become a well known name and has had a sizeable impact in the world of gaming journalism. In one of his last updates to the public he said “It’s been a privilege, thank you all for letting me into your life and do something so important as to have an impact on how you spend your hard-earned money. “
