New Red Dead Redemption 2 trailer brings a familiar face

Posted on May 3, 2018

To say Red Dead Redemption 2 is one of the most anticipated games of 2018 wouldn’t be a stretch. So it was a little bit of a gut punch when we found out that the Wild West sequel was due for the industry standard, a delay. While talk had been for a release around about now the title found itself pushed back to October 26th. With the slightly longer wait Rockstar have decided the time was right to whet our appetites a little more with a brand new trailer that would keep us going a little while longer.

While Red Dead Redemption 2 is a prequel to the original released in 2010 the previous trailers have not shied away from the fact that the protagonist would not be the familiar John Marston. Following the new face Arthur Morgan, a previously unmentioned name, the story centres around the Van der Linde gang after a job in Blackwater goes south. This gang counts among it’s numbers many of the antagonists of the original, all ex associates of John Marston who was hunting them down.

With this setting in mind fans have been asking, where is John? While the end of his story was devastating for many we aren’t done with him just yet and would love to see where the charismatic character came from. Thankfully in a single moment prayers were answered as a young John Marston flashed on screen. The young bandit makes his debut being held by an assailant, John is clearly sporting freshly stitched facial scars that would eventually become part of his signature look.

Along with the appearance of John there were plenty of little hints about the direction of the new title as well as a very strong connection to fire, both in visuals and monologuing characters. There is every chance we are going to see a fairly devastating fire in the new release — only time will tell though.

Red Dead Redemption is due out October 26th 2018 and that seems like a very solid and permanent date. Be sure to check out the trailer before and head over to the official website for more info.
