Bandai Namco has announced that its anticipated action-RPG Code Vein will launch on Xbox One, PS4 and Steam on 28 September, and also released a new story trailer for the game.
Code Vein, which has been teased since early last year, is an anime-styled third-person RPG where players will control an immortal soldier called a Revenant (essentially a vampire) in a post-apocalyptic world, fighting through a host of enemies with some very cool looking weapons. Based on previous trailers for the game, many (including us) have already classified it as an anime-styled Soulsbourne game, a comparison that Code Vein is clearly embracing with it’s “Prepare to dine” tagline and a key item in the game being called “Blood veils”.
The latest trailer reveals a lot more about the game’s story and appears to be quite spoiler-heavy – that being said, I won’t pretend that I have any idea what’s going on within it. In true anime style, it’s all very dramatic and mysterious, with sweeping music and fast-paced action.
Bandai Namco has also provided information on the Collector’s Edition of the game, which will be available for both the PS4 and Xbox One. Along with the usual bonus content such as the game’s soundtrack, artbook and an in-game customization set called ‘Insatiable bloodthirst’, the Collector’s Edition will also include a 17cm figurine of Mia Kartsein, one of the main characters in the game.
While I’ve never personally been a big fan of the anime aesthetic (please don’t hurt me!), the comparisons to and obvious inspirations that Code Vein has taken from the Soulsbourne series’ is enough to get me pretty hyped about this release.
We’ll have much more on Code Vein as we get closer to launch in September.
