Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 will now be free to all PlayStation Plus subscribers as of tonight. Announced during the PlayStation’s 2018 E3 presentation, the Activision title will be joining Trials: Fusion and XCOM 2 for June’s PlayStation Plus lineup.
In other news, Call of Duty fans will be excited to see the return of select fan favourite maps. Jungle, Summit, Firing Range, and Slums will be making a nostalgic come back as downloadable content for Black Ops 3 and upcoming release, Black Ops 4.
The Call of Duty series is no stranger to remastering classic multiplayer maps as downloadable content. The die-hard fans behind the franchise love their staples, and Treyarch’s aforementioned prized selection is easily their best of prior games.
All featuring extremely tight and close combat battles, each still contains a large variety of movement and war zones. It will be interesting to see how each differs in both games. Black Ops 3 features the unique double-jump, mobile movement system of recent Call of Duty titles while Black Ops 4 will return to it’s simpler grounded roots. Will Firing Range still be as fun with jetpacking war machines or will it suffer from too much chaos? Only time will tell.
Black Ops 4 has been under fire for removing a traditional singleplayer mode and adding in a ‘Battle Royale’ style element. Receiving a few familiar faces for life-long series fans will definitely help encourage sales and pre-orders leading up to its release later this year.
Black Ops 3‘s classic maps are available right now. Treyarch’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 will release 12 October 2018 on PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One.
