Dead or Alive Xtreme: Venus Vacation adds disturbing new NSFW feature

In a move that is sure to go down like a ton of bricks, Dead or Alive Xtreme: Venus Vacation has added a new feature which allows you to tug at character’s clothes.

Dead or Alive is a series of fighting games that isn’t exactly known for its tastefulness or tact when it comes to the matter of sexualising literally everyone on the roster. Although a new feature being added to Dead or Alive Xtreme: Venus Vacation seems to be taking that sexualisation to a whole new level.

The Xterme spin-off series of Dead or Alive isn’t too closely related to the main series. It’s basically a fan-service volleyball game still made by the same development team and still published by Koei Tecmo.

Team Ninja has come forward and said they want to make Dead or Alive 6 “less sexualised”. Although with this new feature being added allowing you to tug on character’s already skimpy clothing, that becomes a hard pill to swallow. The feature itself isn’t really too out of left field for the Dead or Alive Xtreme series, but what makes it so hard to accept is the fact that it seems very much against the character’s will, with them struggling to keep their clothes in place, while being visually uncomfortable with what is happening to them. The mini-game also costs in-game currency, which can be earned by playing, or by buying it with real money.

Yohei Shimbori, the game’s director and producer recently went on record about Dead or Alive 6 stating “We wanted to make a more cool and mature Dead or Alive this time, and to that end we made a conscious decision to make the characters less sexualized, female characters’ breasts will no longer feature the exaggerated ‘jiggle physics’ or seemingly defy gravity with their bouncing as was becoming somewhat of a staple for the series.” Art director Yutaka Saito added that “The female characters are still attractive, as are the men, but first and foremost they are fighters.”

If that is indeed that case then it would seem like the developers are simply shifting that sexualised focus onto the Xtreme spin-off series. I think most gamers will require a bit more proof before taking them at their word though. And undeniably this new feature is sure to leave a bitter taste in most fans’ mouths.
