Microsoft has made a point of aligning itself with a wave of indie titles. One of the great studios to emerge from this wave of independent development is DONTNOD. The Creators of the Life is Strange, DONTNOD, has gone on to make a range of interesting gaming experiences. Now we’ve got a new taste of what the Life is Strange universe has to offer: The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit.
The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit is a new adventure set in the universe of Life is Strange. Chris lives alone with his father, an alcoholic. Bullied at school, Chris stays at home going on imaginary adventures. In his imagination, he is Captain Spirit! A Spacefaring Superhero, he will be blasting off to distant planets and facing foes and fighting the good fight.
This looks to be an interesting departure for the franchise. The previous Life is Strange games focussed on Max Caulfield and Chloe Price in a journey through the turbulent times of adolescence. This one has a much more juvenile feel to it.This game will still be dealing with some important issues: bullying, abandonment, alcoholism. But there’s definitely a different flavour to things by putting it through the lens of a child. All in all an exciting addition from DONTNOD, definitely something to look forward to.
The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit is coming to Xbox One, PC and PS4 June 26, for free.
