Newest Overwatch hero Wrecking Ball is the cutest

The newest Overwatch hero to be revealed is an adorable hamster in a giant mech suit called Wrecking Ball, and is now available to try out in the PTR.

Wrecking Ball is the 28th hero to be added to the roster. According to the official site, Hammond the Hamster was an experiment in the Horizon Lunar Colony. As his intelligence grew, he spent his time teaching himself the skills of a mechanic, which would come in handy when he eventually broke free and landed in the Australian Outback. It’s in the scrapyard that he modified his escape pod into the mech that it is today. Check out the full origin story here:

Wrecking Ball is the 6th tank to join the line-up and comes with the following abilities:

• Quad Cannons – Automatic assault weapons
• Roll – Transform into a ball and increase maximum movement speed.
• Grappling Claw  – Launch a grappling claw to rapidly swing around the area. Enables high speed collisions to damage and knockback enemies.
• Minefield  – Deploy a massive field of proximity mines
• Adaptive Shield – Create temporary personal shields. Amount increases with more enemies nearby.
• Piledriver – Slam into the ground below to damage and launch enemies upward.

With the mobility of the Grappling Claw and the devastation of the Piledriver, Wrecking Ball could become quite the popular hero in the team shooter that doesn’t seem to be losing steam anytime soon. We recently found out that Overwatch will be one of the games that features here at the Melbourne Esports Open. I certainly didn’t think a cute hamster in a giant mech would be one of the heroes I’d be cheering on from the crowd, but here we are.

You can try Wrecking Ball out for yourself in the PTR and he will be available in the regular servers and on consoles sometime in the coming weeks.
