Shadow of the Tomb Raider is set to close Lara’s origin story on a high note

While we knew that Shadow of the Tomb Raider, the third in the rebooted series, was on its way we now have a brand new trailer that takes a closer look at the story. Microsoft showed off just how dark and gritty Lara’s new exploits will be as she delves into the folklore and mythology of Mexico.

The new story will revolve around Lara’s hubris as she heads to a Mayan temple and in trying to save an artefact from someone triggers the apocalypse called “the cleansing”. Now with a ticking clock Lara must find a way to avert the destruction she caused.

The trailer shows off great set pieces from puzzles in a Mayan puzzle and a Mexican city being overrun with a flash flood leaving our favourite Tomb Raider gasping for breath as she is jostled around the rapids.

Shadow of the Tomb raider is set to release on Playstation 4, Xbox One and PC on September 14 this year and is being called the final chapter of Lara’s origin story. While not being handled by Crystal Dynamics the new development team, Eidos Montréal, look like they’ve really captured the gritty feel that we’ve come to expect from the rebooted Tomb Raider franchise.
