The charming puzzle-adventure game The Gardens Between will launch on the Nintendo Switch later this year, at the same time it comes out on PS4, Windows and Mac.
Created by Melbourne-based developers The Voxel Agents, The Gardens Between follows best friends Arina and Frendt through a surreal world of mysterious (and very pretty) garden islands. In the game, players won’t be controlling Arina and Frendt directly – instead, they’ll be controlling the flow of time itself, to change and shape these characters and their relationship with each other. Watch how this works in action in the latest trailer below:
“The Gardens Between is an homage to the friendships from our childhoods that felt so impossibly large that the bonds could never be broken,” says Simon Joslin, co-founder of The Voxel Agents. “We took inspiration from our own childhoods when building the narrative of The Gardens Between. We wanted to tap into something relatable, familiar and nostalgic.”
We were lucky enough to play some of this delightful game at last year’s PAX, and were very impressed by its beautiful art style, soothing soundtrack and clever, challenging puzzles.
The self-contained nature of the islands makes this one a perfect fit for the Switch, and is another exciting addition to the console’s ever-growing collection of indie games.
Unfortunately we don’t have an exact release date, but we do know it’ll be in Q3 of this year. For more information and updates you can check out the game’s official website.
