Dodge Roll’s chaotic bullet-hell roguelike Enter the Gungeon is getting a free upgrade soon. ‘Advanced Gungeons and Draguns’ will be dropping next week. It will bring with it gameplay tweaks, new enemies, guns and ammo types. Hopefully we will be getting more gun-related wordplay as well.
Originally scheduled for release last year, the free expansion for all available platforms will be coming out on July 19. According to the announcement, it will be informed by community feedback and bring requested quality-of-life changes to the game. Most notably, it will work to make the game more accessible to newcomers, and offer more options to scale back the game’s difficulty. However, the main theme of the expansion seems to be optional additions, meaning that anyone who prefers the game to be obtuse and demanding are also catered to.
“Our primary focus was to make the Gungeon a more generous place, while retaining options, for players who really engage with the difficulty of the game,” says the announcement. “If you tried Gungeon in the past and found it too hard, too stingy, or too slow- this update will be the version for you. If you liked it just the way it was, don’t worry, we’ve got you covered as well.”
It is a great show of good faith by the developers to release this large expansion to their game for free. It also demonstrates a desire to fix and make changes to their game based on criticism. Hopefully this will renew interest in the game and hopefully make the game more accessible to new players.
The Advanced Gungeons and Draguns expansion will be freely available on Switch, PS4, PC and Xbox One on July 19.
