They’re back! 3D Realms and Voidpoint are excited to announce the return of their classic 90’s game Ion Maiden. Founded 30 years ago, 3D Realms was the publisher, developer and creator of many legendary gaming franchises, most of which are still going strong today: Wolfenstein 3D, Duke Nukem, Shadow Warrior, Max Payne and Prey.
Ion Maiden is the the old-school first-person shooter from 3D Realms and Voidpoint, that will re-introduce classic fast-paced multiplayer FPS action when it releases in early 2019. Launching directly into early access back in February of this year its certainly the golden child of FPS games and will be using 3D Realms famous Build engine and original tech from that famous 90’s era that helped launch the FPS genre.
Whilst 3D Realms and Voidpoint had originally hoped to have Ion Maiden ready for fans by the third quarter of 2018 it was their sense of professionalism and dedication to the game itself that has pushed the deadline back to early 2019. Both teams agreed that they wanted to make sure that Ion Maiden met the same level of polish 3D Realms has given to its other classic titles. “We wanted Ion Maiden out as soon as possible, but it has to be the best it can be,” said Frederik Schreiber, Vice President, 3D Realms. “But this extra time means we can make this awesome Big Box edition and add multiplayer at launch, so we hope players understand.”
Those who purchased the game during Early Access will have access to a multiplayer beta closer to launch. And as a gesture of goodwill for the delayed launch, old-school multiplayer and big boxes are back. Limited to only 500 units, each Ion Maiden’s Founder’s Edition will be individually numbered and will contain your most prized possession. A copy of the full game contained on a floppy disk with a retractable USB cable.

This is a limited run and with only 500 available nows definitely the time to pick up yourself a bad-ass Founder’s Edition big box. Ion Maiden is due for release early 2019 and will be available on Windows PC, Mac, and Linux.
