What is the sound of one hand clapping? Nutaku the lewd gaming specialists and YouPorn have teamed up to create the first Adult Gaming eSports Championship.
Contestants will battle it out in an attempt to prove that they’re the ultimate adult gamer and try to capture a share of the $25,000 prize pool. The competition will see 64 players showdown in an intense mobile tank warfare, in this single-elimination tournament. As an added bonus, all participants of the eSports competition will receive a free 12 month YouPorn Premium membership.
Promoting their Lewd Gaming Championship, Nutaku have pulled out all the sleezy stops. The tag line for the event reads… “Prepare for a next generation mobile game that features fast-paced PVP tank warfare with real-time players, sexy militants, exceptional HD graphics, and highly customizable game elements. Interact with your friends and military hotties on the go!” and features the “charming” promo image TnT below.
There’s no denying that eSports is suddenly becoming a more mainstream product in today’s culture. With our local government putting so much into Victoria’s budding eSports future recently its definitely something we are going to see a lot more of and as a fan of eSports I’m exceptionally grateful for that. However to quote a wise man who gave a young hero some advice once: “With great power comes great responsibility” and I feel that’s exactly what we have here.
Firstly let me just state that I’m not here to slam on porn. I mean, I like porn, I think a lot of people out there watch and it has been a part of society and culture for a long time, there’s no changing that. I don’t however think it needs to capitalise on esports to increase its popularity and that’s what’s in question here. To the naked eye its clearly obvious that Nutaku and YouPorn are simply jumping on the popularity bandwagon that is eSports and riding it for all its worth. While this is a tactic employed by pretty much everyone I have to point out exactly why they shouldn’t join this party and just keep doing what they do best instead.
There is definitely a place for video games to explore sexuality through their mechanics rather than throwaway fan service or lengthy dialogues contained within storyline, but it’s a thin line to start treading upon when you combine sex and eSports. As a market with a system of rewards and a prize pool up for grabs it tip toes the murky waters of rewards for sex, porn is hard enough to regulate without adding gaming to that mix particularly that on the level of competitive eSports.
In the end this isn’t likely to be an issue that will be solved in the space of a single news story and sadly I feel that with the rise in popularity of competitive eSport gaming, it’s something we will see more of in the near future. Lewd Gaming may just be the beginning.
