Fans of the real-time strategy series The Settlers have gotten some great news from this year’s Gamescom. Ubisoft’s studio Blue Byte have announced a brand new entry into the series, expected to release sometime in 2019. The series, which began in 1993, is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. Though no gameplay was shown, we did get to see a cinematic trailer.
Though we don’t know much about the game, the official blurb reads, “Forced to leave their homelands after a devastating earthquake of mysterious origins, the Settlers set sail towards the unknown in the hopes of finding a new home. Not only will they face countless new challenges, they will also become part of an ancient mystery that will change their lives forever.”
And there’s more! To celebrate the milestone, a modernised collection of all previous games in the series has also been announced. The Settlers: History Collection will arrive on November 15 2018. However if you don’t want to wait, the History Edition of the first game is already on Uplay, with added features like auto saving and and different speed options.
Since it’s first game, The Settlers has been applauded for its combination of city building and ‘god game’ gameplay. Its popularity helped define the real-time simulation genre for future games, such as the open-source game Widelands. These announcements will surely be big news for Settlers fans.
