Game Freak, the studio behind the incredibly popular Pokémon franchise, have revealed a new upcoming game. The game’s working title is Town and it’s a turn-based RPG set inside a village under attack by monsters.
Town is set for release in 2019 with the entire story of the game taking place within the one village. Despite being a turn-based RPG developed by the Pokémon developers, the game actually looks fairly different from the Pokémon series. Take up arms against invading foes, enlist the aide of fellow villagers, and uncover the secret of the town.
Town is certainly an unexpected announcement. Game Freak are a huge studio and even though they do occasionally develop games outside of the Pokémon franchise, those games are never really blockbuster releases. We also know that Game Freak are developing the upcoming Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Let’s Go, Eevee! releasing in November of this year as well as a new mainline Pokémon RPG for the Switch set to release in the latter half of 2019. So they certainly have their hands full at the moment.
Regardless, Town is a nice surprise and we can’t wait to hear more about the game soon.
