Call of Juarez takes on Red Dead Redemption 2 in new tease

Posted on October 16, 2018

Looks like we got ourselves an ol’ fashioned showdown! In a short viral tease, Call of Juarez: Gunslinger protagonist Silas Greaves delivers a cryptic message across universes to Arthur Morgan of Red Dead Redemption 2.

A video featuring the gunslinging rebel is quite short yet compelling to anyone interested in either Red Dead Redemption or Call of Juarez.  As the description says, “Silas Greaves has something to say to Arthur Morgan and the Van der Linde gang“. The snippet pans across various environments and western landscapes from what seems to be an updated version of Call of Juarez: Gunslinger. Narrating over the imagery is Greaves, providing some “insight” for Rockstar Games‘ Arthur Morgan and crew regarding their upcoming adventure releasing 26 October 2018.

Techland Games, the developers of the 2013 western shooter, released the video and accompanying images on their social media pages last week. Featuring the infamous outlaw Greaves from behind standing upon a mountain range of a beautiful view, the media seems to tease a potential new entry in the series. The studio is currently working on the release of zombie-parkour terror Dying Light 2 and Dying Light: Bad Blood, so adding the well-needed follow up to Gunslinger is a welcome addition if true. Call of Juarez: Gunslinger released on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC, and the noble PlayStation Portable (PSP). It will be more than enticing to see a sequel in the current generation.

The addition of a new logo and words, “I haven’t been here in many years. Name’s Silas Greaves,” were also posted on the Call of Jaurez Facebook page as a status update. These posts follow a full five-year absence from the page, the last post dating back to 29 May 2013. Speculation of what is to come from the series is on a consistent incline. It’s quite clear the studio is building a bit of a rivalry between themselves and Rockstar’s Red Dead Redemption 2. Whether it is merely a friendly public relations stunt or a full-on bounty against Rockstar is yet to be known.

Greave’s, or Techland Game’s public relations and communications team, seem to know well that this town ain’t big enough for the two of em’. Does the current market have room for two huge western games? Time will tell. Techland’s cunning message to Rockstar Games exhibits an extraordinary amount of wit, perfectly fitting the mood of the desolate and boundless Old West.

Following up their poke at Rockstar, Techland says they “figured that a legend of the Old West like Silas Greaves would want to tip his hat to Arthur Morgan… Legends never die, after all“. Rockstar is yet to respond.
