The Pathless is a gorgeous new game from the creators of Abzu

Upcoming adventure game The Pathless was revealed at this year’s Game Awards, and it looks absolutely stunning:

If the art style seems familiar, it’s because the game is being developed by Giant Squid Studios, the same studio responsible for the equally beautiful looking Abzu.  Although given how agile the protagonist of The Pathless looks, let’s hope that the game doesn’t end up suffering from the same frustrating control schemes that hampered Abzu.

Apart from the very enticing reveal trailer, not much else is known about The Pathless, although the description from the official site does provide some more information:

“The Pathless is a mythic adventure game about an archer and an eagle in a vast forest… Become the Hunter, a master of archery who travels to a mystical island to dispel a curse of darkness that grips the world. Forge a connection with your eagle companion as you hunt corrupted spirits, but be careful not to become the hunted yourself. Explore misty forests full of secrets, solve puzzles in ancient ruins, and test your skill in epic battles. The bond with your eagle and the fate of the world hang in the balance.”

Breath of the Wild and Horizon: Zero Dawn are both some of my absolutely favourite games, so suffice it to say that a game with similar ingredients – an absolutely gorgeous world; bow combat; and taking down huge, fantastical beasts – means that The Pathless has instantly shot up to the very top of my most anticipated list.

The Pathless is set to release next year on PS4 and PC. We’ll be sure to provide more updates as they come through.
