It’s that time again! Another Nintendo Indie Highlights stream has come and gone and with it some new independent titles to fawn over. We’ve got release dates for some games (such as Wargroove first shown off during E3, coming Feb 1) Let’s delve into some of the best this installment had to offer.
Double Kick Heroes
This game was introduced to us with the line”Merging face-melting heavy metal rhythm riffs with a high octane zombie crushing shoot ’em up”. Now if that isn’t a bloody insane quote to get the hype ball rolling I don’t know what is. Better still Double Kick Heroes looks like it earns that hype. The trailer shows off a Guitar Hero-like set up, with each hit note translating to a shot fired into an ever-approaching horde.
Double Kick Heroes is coming in Winter of this year.
When Ski Lifts Go Wrong
Bringing together the worlds of physics construction and 2.5D driving games, When Ski Lifts Go Wrong looks like a crazy ride. Create a physics structure to help navigate through the terrain, then challenge your friends to traverse it.
When Ski Lifts Go Wrong is out now.
Inmost
Pixelly graphics can be truly awe-inspiring, especially when used with intricate detail. Inmost uses this style to create a haunting atmosphere for its action platformer. Follow several characters in an interconnected story filled with monsters lurking in every shadow.
Inmost is coming sometime in 2019.
Crosscode
Engaging puzzles. Butter smooth physics. A gripping sci-fi story. 16 bit graphics. All are promised in Cross Code a wonderful looking RPG heading to the Switch. This looks hectic and amazing, looking forward to seeing how this all comes together.
Crosscode is coming sometime in 2019.
So again congratulations to the Nintendo Indie department. As always, this showcase had a lot of fantastic games to look forward to coming to the Switch. You can check out the presentation in its entirety here. So which indie games are you looking forward to in the new year?
