Project Z and Dragon Ball FighterZ second season incoming

Posted on January 30, 2019

Someone must have summoned Shenron recently; fans of the popular anime series, Dragon Ball, just got their wish with new gaming news from Bandai Namco.

Not one, but two new feature trailers with all new gaming content relating to the popular Shōnen series has just been released. The first revealing a completely new RPG that will have fans, new and old, frothing at the mouth, with the second trailer announcing new season to one of the most popular fighting games in recent memory.

Finally we got some more info surrounding the mysterious game, Project Z, that Bandai Namco was teasing us with and boy was it a doozy! Project Z appears to be an open world role playing game that tells the story of Son Goku as he lives through several different iconic tales within the shows original run. Despite the trailer itself providing viewers with only a small amount of gameplay footage, every scene looks as though it was pulled directly from the anime.

Along with the trailer release was a statement from the creative team at Bandai Namco stating “In this epic retelling, Dragon Ball fans will be able to play through the legendary adventures of the Saiyan named Kakarot… better known as Goku—recounting the beloved story of Dragon Ball Z like never before. Players will experience Goku’s quest for power, his thirst for a challenge and, above all, his desire to protect Earth from the most fearsome of villains.”

So it looks as though fans, both new and old will get enjoy Goku’s tale all the way from the Saiyan saga and beyond. Considering this title is coming to the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC in 2019 this will be a fully expanded tale that is bound to span the entire “Z” saga and beyond. However this was not the only bit of news Bandai Namco had to release in the week…

After much rumourmongering among the fans it was announced that season two of Dragon Ball FighterZ, on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC, was to be released this 2019, with six brad new combatants. Even more exciting, was the news that two of the new fighters would be arriving as early as this week January 31st – Jiren and Videl (partnered with the Great Saiyaman).

The powerhouse fighter Jiren; a member of Universe Eleven’s Pride Troupe and a fighter considered to be even stronger than that Universes’ God of Destruction, finally makes his debut to the popular fighting game. His fighting style, from the series, is steeped in overwhelming power, so much power in fact, that only a technique like Ultra Instinct can overcome, so anyone looking to fight him will certainly have their work cut out for them.

Videl is the second female fighter to enter the ring and so I’m pleased to see she has a good set of attacks to unleash on anyone foolish enough to underestimate her. Of course, in the grand scheme of things Videl’s actual battle strength is rather low, so she gets an assist from the Great Saiyaman (Son Gohan) who will both fight alongside her with paired combo’s and a retaliatory Kamehameha Wave attack. Both Videl and Jiren are set for a release date of January 31st, 2019, so just around the corner for all of your eager players looking forward to a showdown between Goku and Jiren.

Dragon Ball

On top of the already announced, 2 out of 6 fighters coming, in conjunction with the release of Dragon Ball Super: Broly, both Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan Blue Gogeta and base form Broly will be available at a later date, but first we’ll get two other new fighters, whom have yet to be announced. My money is on Kefla, the fused female Super Saiyan from Universe 6, and hopefully her teammate Cabba, another Saiyan from Universe 6 whose Master/Student relationship with Vegeta has served as one of the series more heartfelt aspects of the show.

With these announcements, Dragon Ball fans certainly have a lot to look forward to this year.
