2019’s New York Toy Fair has come and gone, and with it came a great number of reveals for upcoming figurines, plushies, and other assorted collectibles. TV shows, movies and comics had plenty of new merchandise to pore over, and thankfully, quite a few gaming franchises got some love as well! Here are just some of the highlights to look forward to throughout the year.
Castlevania has been enjoying a resurgence recently, thanks to the well-received Netflix show as well as the playable appearances of Simon and Richter Belmont in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. To celebrate this second-coming of the vampire killers, Diamond Select Toys are producing a line of action figures based upon the three protagonists of the aforementioned series, Trever Belmont, Sypha Belnades, and Alucard.
In addition, the series will also be getting a line of Funko Pops, which will feature the same line-up but with the addition of the lord of darkness himself, Dracula, and antagonist Blue Fang, who managed to gain a decent fandom for himself thanks to his actions within season one. The morning sun has come to vanquish your shelf space.
Sonic the Hedgehog is set to receive quite a lot of new memorabilia this year too. Diamond Select Toys are creating a series of Green Hill-themed dioramas that are accompanied by some great looking figurines of Sonic, Tails, Amy, Shadow, and more.
Accompanying this, Jakks Pacific are creating several lines of toys, featuring bendable figures, mini-figures which replicate the appearance of Sonic Battle, and a line of classic character figures, which surprisingly includes Mighty and Ray, characters who only just made their return to the series in Sonic Mania Plus! These line-ups are sure to have Sonic fans hanging on the edge of tomorrow until their release.
Not to be outdone at the Toy Fair, Mario of course made his own splash with quite a number of new releases to salivate over. Action figures for Mario and Cappy, Lakitu, Kamek and recent Smash fighter the Piranha Plant were spotted, in addition to a fantastic looking play-set of Bowser’s Castle as seen above. Best to start saving up your coins now, because these are sure to a-go fast!
Several other series were also featured at the event, with Capcom going all-out with Mega Man, Resident Evil, and Street Fighter franchises all receiving some new merchandise as well. Statues, action figures and plushies abound, with fans getting the chance to have an adorable plush Nemesis alongside a frankly terrifying looking Mega Man statue. No photo of this statue has been included here; you’re welcome.
All in all, gaming fans look set to have plenty of opportunities to splurge on some new merchandise this year. For more reveals and photos, be sure to check out the Toy Fair’s appearances throughout Twitter and other forms of social media.
