Keen to jump back behind a powerful rifle and eliminate elusive foes and targets? Rebellion, an independent games developer and publisher has announced a bunch of Sniper Elite projects (a trademark franchise by the studio) set to come out.
The studio put out a development update video, showcasing some remasters and complete additions of titles, including some finding their way to Switch and even a standalone VR Game.
Rebellion CEO and co-founder Jason Kingsley has confirmed in a press release that four Sniper Elite are currently in the works. A remaster of Sniper Elite V2, Sniper Elite 3 Ultimate Edition on Switch, and a currently untitled Sniper Elite game for VR devices. Announcements were also made regarding the next major title in the Sniper Elite series, reassuring audiences it was also currently being worked on. The press release states as follows:
- Sniper Elite V2 Remastered will bring 1945 Berlin to current platforms with stunning new visuals and a host of new features.
- Sniper Elite 3 Ultimate Edition on Switch introduces Karl’s breathtaking North African adventure to a Nintendo platform for the first time ever.
- A new, standalone Sniper Elite game for VR devices is being developed in partnership with independent British studio Just Add Water, known for their work on the Oddworld and Gravity Crash series.
- The next major title in the Sniper Elite series, following in the footsteps of the widely acclaimed Sniper Elite 4, is being worked on now.
The remaster of Sniper Elite V2 looks to be exciting, with the title coming to PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch later in 2019. Long time fans can jump back into this Berlin adventure once more, with new features, or new fans can enter for the first time.
A statement in the press release details a little more, “Offering stunningly enhanced graphics, 4K resolution* and HDR display*, this is the visually definitive version of Sniper Elite V2. It will introduce new playable characters, a brand-new photo mode, expanded online multiplayer for up to 16 combatants*, as well as all the content ever released for the game.”
The flow of content for this popular franchise seems long and ongoing for the next year, the Sniper Elite 3 Ultimate Edition is set to come out on the Switch in 2019 while a full reveal of the new VR game will also come later in the year.
Fans eager for the next mainline title they may have to wait just a little while longer, with details being promised in 2020. This hardly seems an issue though, fans of this series will have their hands full for a long time to come yet.
