Darksiders Genesis teaser showcases all new ARPG

Beloved Darksiders universe will be getting a brand new spin-off ARPG by the name of Darksiders Genesis. The action role-playing game is coming from the passionate minds of Airship Syndicate, the developers of Battle Chasers: Nightwar.

The teaser focuses on introducing new protagonist Strife. Fighting alongside War from the original Darksiders, the horsemen wield a wide arsenal to devour foes. The cunning new character speaks to a large, three-headed demon preluding a short display of colourful action.

The clip showcases guns, melee weapons, magic, and sweet, sweet looting gameplay.  The look and feel are very similar to new-school ARPGs like Diablo 3. However, the video includes characters jumping in the midst of battle. The simple control is primary to Darksiders, although rarely seen in top-down, action role-playing games.

Here’s Darksiders Genesis story in a nutshell:

“From the dawn of creation, the council has maintained the Balance across existence. Carrying out their orders are the Horsemen, Nephilim (powerful beings spawned from the unnatural union of angels and demons) who have pledged themselves to the Council and been granted immense power.

However, this power came at a tragic cost: the Horsemen were ordered to use their newfound strength to wipe out the rest of their kind. What followed was a bloody battle on Eden where the Horsemen, obeying the will of the Council, annihilated the Nephilim.”

With the somewhat mediocre success of Darksiders 3, only time will tell how Darksiders Genesis will perform. Will a shake-up to the classic formula be what the series needs to stay relevant? As details unfold over the E3 2019 weekend, fans will know soon enough.

Darksiders Genesis will be releasing on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and the Nintendo Switch like its predecessor Darksiders: Warmastered. Surprisingly, it is slated to release on Google’s new gaming platform Stadia.
