With a surprise trailer that no one was expecting, or really asking for, Ubisoft announced that they will be releasing a sequel to the cult classic RTS game, Evil Genius 2.
The trailer does not show off any gameplay but gives you a good idea of what to expect from the new instalment. The graphics and art style are very reminiscent of Team Fortress 2, being very colourful and having a good sense of humour.
The original released back in 2004 and was a big change from regular RTS games at the time, as it tasked you with being the bad guy hellbent on world domination., described by Rebellion Developments as a “real-time mad scientist lair management strategic simulation”
The previous title was known for having a good amount of tongue-in-cheek humour and had nods to the popular 007 series, which looks to be continued in this new instalment with one of the characters still sporting a striking resemblance to Dr. No.
This looks to be a welcome change from the more realistic historical based RTS games we have seen over the last couple of years, and I hope they go all in on the wacky 60’s-70’s spy aesthetic.
I look forward to finding out more about Evil Genius 2, and whilst we do not have a release date yet, you can sign up to win access to the closed beta when it is released here.
