Free games for PlayStation, Xbox and PC subscribers in June

Posted on June 3, 2019

The beginning of a new month marks some sweet titles for those with subscription services on PlayStation, Xbox and PC. Some decent AAA titles appear across the respective PlayStation Plus, Xbox Gold, Humble Monthly, Epic Games and Twitch Prime services. Here’s what free titles players can look forward to in June!

PlayStation Plus

  • Borderlands: The Handsome Collection

Borderlands: The Handsome Collection packs in two key games in the series: Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel. With Borderlands 3 due to come out in September, now’s as good a time as any for curious gamers (or long time fans looking to revisit) to jump into this epic space adventure. Wacky side quests, a lush cell shaded art style and a great, co-op celebrated campaign await!

  • Sonic Mania

While caution may still be out there towards the upcoming movie, Sonic Mania is a fantastic entry to be offered to June’s PlayStation Plus. It is a brilliant homage to the original trilogy and provides a rocking soundtrack and colourful levels. Here’s our review of the larger packaged version Sonic Mania Plus.

Xbox Games with Gold

  • Xbox One

EA Sports NHL 19 (Available June 1-30)

Likely a highlight of the bunch due to the fact it remains a relatively recent game, getting NHL 19 for free is an absolute steal. While this title may typically appeal to a more niche audience, it may be worth picking up for those looking for some fun on ice!

Rivals of Aether (Available June 16- July 15)

This title proves to be a viable option for a fun couch party game! Rivals of Aether is a fighter platformer in the same vein of the big juggernaut Smash Bros. Ultimate. It could be a great title for those without a Switch looking to get their party fighter fix!

  • Xbox One &  Xbox 360

Portal: Still Alive (Available from June  1- June 15)

Undoubtedly a very influential and phenomenal game when it came out back in 2007 with the Orange Box. This is a must grab for those who haven’t yet had the pleasure of exploring Aperture Science. Solve puzzles with portals, avoid turrets and do your best to overcome GLaDOS, just remember: the cake is a lie!

Earth Defence Force 2017 (Available from June 16- June 30)

This over-the-top shooter sees players fighting off an alien invasion of gigantic, insectoid foes. Use a wide variety of weapons and vehicles to fight off these other worldly critters.

Humble Monthly

  • Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 (Available until June 7)

Carrying on from its availability in May is the most recent shooter in the trademark franchise. This entry swapped out a campaign for a focus on its iconic Multiplayer and Zombies game. Also along for the ride is their take on the Battle Royale genre: Blackout. Another great free grab for its usual high retail price.

  • More titles to be revealed June 7

Epic Games

  • City of Brass (Available until June 7)

Players using the Epic Games Store can enjoy a single player, first person rogue lite in this game. Become a daring and dashing thief in this procedurally generated, Arabian nights themed city of interconnecting courtyards, corridors and rooms. You can check out our review of City of Brass when it first released here.

  • Kingdom New Lands (Available June 7-14)

Kingdom: New Lands is a “sequel” to the original Kingdom and serves as a ‘kingdom building sim.’ The game received very positive reviews and is well worth checking out for strategy game enthusiasts!

Twitch Prime

  • The Little Acre (Available until June 4)

The Little Acre is a cute adventure game set in Ireland that tells the story of a small family. The art style is all hand drawn and can prove to be worth checking into for those keen on an artful adventure!

  • Whispering Willows (Available until June 4)

Whispering Willows is an indie horror game that sees players interacting with spirits, solving the puzzles of a mysterious mansion and helping protagonist Elena find their father. The game received very positive reviews and received appraisal for its gorgeous aesthetic.

  • Stealth Bastard Deluxe (Available until June 4)

Stealth Bastard Deluxe is a fast paced stealth platformer where players will sneak their way through a mysterious and deadly facility that’s “determined to extinguish your fragile little life.” Stealth game enthusiasts will undoubtedly want to check this one out due to its interesting change of pace from the genre.

  • Majesty Collection (Available until June 4)

Players will see themselves set in a fantasy strategy setting with this  ruling title. “In the world of Majesty, you are the ruler of the Kingdom. Your rule is not absolute, however, as you face subjects that are independent and stubborn. They will need a great deal of persuasion before they carry out your wishes...”

And there you have it! Free subscription games are not always going to please everyone but there’s some big titles and neat little indies in there. All in all, something for everyone this June.
