Load up your proton packs because the big bosses of bustin’ are back and prettier than ever. The 2009 Ghostbusters game is receiving a remaster 10 years after its original release, and just in time for the 35th anniversary of the film series! That oughta make you feel good!
For those who may have missed the original release, Ghostbusters: The Video Game is the canonical follow-up to the original films, with the player taking on the role of a new recruit and getting some on-the-job training from the veterans themselves. Notably, each of the returning Ghostbusters are voiced by their original actors, including Harold Ramis, who also helped Dan Akroyd with the game’s script.
With that said, let’s have a look at the trailer:
Is the song stuck in your head now too?
The game features over-the-shoulder third person gameplay reminiscent of Gears of War. It plays out similarly to a film with the events unfolding around you while the gang panic and/or snark along the way. There was also a multiplayer co-op mode which will hopefully make a return as well. The original release was pretty well-received, so this remaster should prove to be a great time, and a real treat for fans of the franchise.
For those still waiting for an eventual Ghostbusters 3, this game should sate your appetite and then some. Ghostbusters Remastered will be arriving later this year for Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC via the Epic store. If you just can’t wait that long, there’s also last year’s Ghostbusters World for mobile. You really can pick up the phone to reach them!
And lastly, for those who plan on watching gameplay online, be sure to only watch one channel at a time. Never cross the streams!
