The Last Remnant Remastered is getting a surprise release on the Nintendo Switch today. The announcement came during Square Enix’s E3 press conference.
Originally released for the Xbox 360, The Last Remnant is a JRPG with a turn-based battle system, like many others Square Enix is known for. However, instead of individually controlling each character’s actions in battle, players need to group various characters into teams, which then go up against enemy teams.
While not shown during the press conference, a much longer video was released on Square Enix’s YouTube channel, featuring interviews with developers of the game to promote the Switch release.
The Last Remnant Remastered first came out for the PS4 last year, so the existence of the game isn’t a surprise. But Square’s been releasing a wealth of their older games onto the Switch lately; Final Fantasies VII, IX, X, X-2, XII are already available on the console, so it’s nice to see Square giving the same attention to their less popular titles. With Dragon Quest XI also announced for the Switch during the conference, Square Enix is showing that Nintendo’s little powerhouse is a big focus for them. This might mean that upcoming new games may show up on the Switch as well.
