Concrete information on Gears Tactics has finally been revealed at The Game Awards, and it’s not far away, launching on April 28th 2020.
Gears Tactics was initially unveiled in its very early stages alongside Gears 5 and Gears POP! at E3 back in 2018 (feels like a long time ago right?). We knew it would be a turn-based tactics game set in the Gears universe, much like Halo Wars was an RTS set in the Halo universe. Now we know exactly what it will look like. Check it out.
Gears Tactics boasts a 40+ hour campaign, and claims to be brutal and very personalised for those who want to customise their own characters with special gear and armour. Halo Wars was never as difficult as some of the games it was referencing, so I’m personally curious to see how challenging this will be considering how tough the turn-based tactics genre can be, thanks to games like XCOM and Fire Emblem.
Still, with several Gears games available now across multiple platforms, there really is plenty of characters and lore to pull from to make this be a success, and a real change of pace for those used to the heavy action sequences the main franchise games tend to focus on.
Gears Tactics launches on Xbox One and PC on April 28th, 2020, with a pre-order bonus of Thrashball Cole, also available with Xbox Game Pass.S
