Serve up warm drinks and listen to stories with Coffee Talk

What is Coffee Talk? Well Shintaro Kanaoya, Founder of publisher Chorus Worldwide, describes it thus: “This game plays like the warm drinks served within it: warm, mellow, and comforting.” I must say I am feeling kind of sold on this one. Who doesn’t like a game based on a real life job but cutting out things like, the reality of actually doing the gig?

In Coffee Talk you play as a Barista serving up delicious warm drinks to customers and… well… listening to their stories. What’s more is that you will be able to live the idealised version of Barista life very soon. Chorus Worldwide and Toge Productions have announced that Coffee Talk will be released on Steam, Nintendo eShop, Microsoft Store and PlayStation Store on Jan 30.

The setting is an alternative Seattle, your customers include not only humans but elves, aliens, and orcs. Listen to your customer’s stories, their problems, and then serve them up some delicious warm coffees from the ingredients you have in stock. This is a unique game because the narrative storylines are based on the drinks you make rather than simple dialogue selections. Storylines range from a dramatic love story between an elf and a succubus, an alien trying to understand humans’ lives.

It’s worth noting at this point that Coffee Talk is an official nominee of “Dengeki Online’s Indie Prize” at The Tokyo Game Show 2019, the finalist for the “Excellence in Narrative” at Busan Indie Connect 2019, and the winner of “Best Storytelling” at Level Up KL 2018.

Developer Toge Productions originally started as a student project in 2009 and is based in Karawaci, Indonesia, founder Kris Antoni explained it’s existence. “After a stressful day, we just want to play something relaxing that’s not stressful or violent, sadly there aren’t many of them.”

Sure Necrobarista is still on the horizon, but if you feel like chill game to play on the way to work, or just to coffee and chill in general. Make sure you keep an eye out for this one because Coffee Talk is the place to be for those who want to chat, relax, and relate no matter who they are or where they come from over delicious expertly crafted hot drinks.
