On Wednesday March 11, Melburnians can take on racing legends in virtual reality (VR). A new experience is coming to Melbourne Central for a limited time that will allow attendees to go head to head with Formula 1 and V8 Supercar legends from past and present.

Presented by Mobil, the experience will allow wannabe racing enthusiasts to challenge the leaderboard and race for pole position in the Albert Park circuit. The experience will utilise VR technology to put gamers right into the cockpit of a modern supercar.

Mobil have a history of being involved with motorsports dating back to 1978. They use a combination of advanced product technology – including specially formulated fluids, fuels, and lubricants – and technical support, which is integral to helping teams push the boundaries of performance in some of the world’s most demanding racing conditions, including the Formula 1 Grand Prix.

This event isn’t just for gamers who think they can take on the leaderboard however. Massive names such as Mark Webber, nine-time Formula 1 Grand Prix winner, Max Verstappen, Formula 1’s youngest ever competitor, and huge V8 Supercar stars such as Chaz Mostert and Bryce Fullwood will all be in attendance.

The event is taking place in Melbourne Central under the Shot Tower. It will run for 8am to 4pm with a specific schedule of events seen below. Do you think you’d be able to take on racing legends within VR?
