Kena: Bridge of Spirits was a surprising new game announcement at the PS5 reveal event this morning, and in my mind was one of the more impressive looking and interesting games they showed.
From experienced animator brothers Mike and Josh Grier from Ember Lab, Kena: Bridge of Spirits will be coming to the PlayStation 5, a story they claim is about “adventure and personal growth”.
Firstly, those little black creatures (known as Rot, which seems harsh) are adorable and this will surely be available in plushy form in no time at all. They are “timid and illusive spirits scattered throughout the forest. They maintain balance by decomposing dead and rotting elements”. Kena also gives off Pikmin vibes with the little creatures, along with combining action and platforming gameplay, as the main character uses a bow, staff and spells to deal with her foes.
The official site says that you have to build your team by finding and collecting Rot to gain powerful abilities, make discoveries and transform the environment, explore a forgotten village and a strange curse while drawing power from the spirit realm, and use your skills to take on corrupt spirits.
Considering Ember Lab have a history as an animation studio, it’s no surprise that this one looks impressively detailed. No release window was given for this one, but we can’t wait to see more of Kena: Bridge of Spirits ASAP. It’s set to release on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and PC via the Epic Games Store.
