As gamers we are currently saving the world by staying in and playing games. Now, with the Starlight Foundation’s Game Changers event, you can help raise money for sick children and be even MORE of a superhero.
For those you are unaware of the organisation, they work with improving the mental and social wellbeing of sick kids. They do this by embracing positive psychology that focuses on fun being an important factor in contributing to a person’s health and happiness. They also know how important families are to children and therefore a lot of their programs are family-centred and focus on caring for the whole family unit.
Game Changers will be held from the 13th – 30th of August 2020 and is encouraging Aussie gamers to stream via Twitch and help raise funds. The challenge is open to anyone whether they already have their own channel or want to get into streaming. It doesn’t matter what your gamiing ability is, any gamer can register and help out! By doing so, you’ll be helping kids out like Chayse, whose story you can watch below.
This is the third year of the challenge which has so far raised over $200,000 for the charity. Starlight hopes to raise $136,500 this year which will help them support their multiple important programs that help sick children smile.
Tracey Tomlin, Starlight’s Partnerships Manager, has said this about the challenge:
“Every minute of every day, a child is admitted to hospital in Australia. Now more than ever, sick and hospitalised kids need fun and positive distraction to help them cope with the loneliness and fear they are facing,” she said.
“Game Changers who fundraise $39 will give one seriously ill child access to our vital hospital services, including the Starlight Express Room. It’s a place for children to get down to the serious business of having fun playing their favourite videos games or doing arts and crafts with Captain Starlight. Because happiness matters!”
Gamers will receive fundraising and streaming support throughout the challenge and also achieve prize incentives along with “Game Changers merchandise and SWAG. Other benefits include exclusive VIP experiences for top fundraisers and a wildcard experience for one lucky streamer!”
As a cool added bonus, all registrations made before 8am on Monday the 13th of July will have their name featured in EB Games and Zing stores across the country via an exclusive Twitch Game Changers promo poster.
Registrations are open for all gamers via GameChangers.org.au. Here participants can set their fundraising goal and stream on Twitch, an official partner for the event, from the 13th-30th of August. So gamers, get gaming and streaming to help the Starlight Foundation do what they do best – make sick kids happy kids!
