Undead Labs have been quietly working away on State of Decay 3 for Xbox Series X, as revealed overnight at the Xbox Games Showcase.
While no gameplay was shown, a large, snowy environment takes centre stage, along with an infected animal who looks mad and/or hungry. Same, honestly.
State of Decay is a zombie survival franchise where you need to gather supplies, save survivors and build a home of sorts with other people during a zombie apocalypse. While the original game was janky, it had a lot of potential, which Xbox noticed when they quickly acquired Undead Labs as one of their exclusive developers.
State of Decay 2 was a much better effort, showing what a bit more time and a bit more budget can do. In my review, I said “The experience isn’t as polished as it could be, but the combination of resource gathering, base management, killing zeds and surviving in this harsh and threatening world makes for an incredibly satisfying experience. State of Decay 2 may not reinvent the wheel, but it’s still bloody satisfying to watch it spin.”
Needless to say, with State of Decay 3 having even more time (and money, presumably) for the studio to refine their craft bodes very well for zombie lovers everywhere, coming to Xbox Series X and PC – and, like all good things, coming to Xbox Game Pass as well.
