The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword is among the more controversial Zelda titles, mainly for the required use of motion controls that featured on the Wii. That doesn’t mean that fans haven’t been clamoring for a remaster for the Switch. Maybe our prayers have just been answered?
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword originally released for the Wii back in 2011 to mostly positive reviews, but there was some criticism pointed towards the motion controls, along with what people considered to be a stale Zelda formula. This eventually led to Breath of the Wild taking a drastic departure in terms of gameplay for the series, which seems to have paid off thanks to the incredibly overwhelming positive reception and current sales numbers of over 18 million units.
Thanks to a recent leak from Amazon UK listing a Switch version of Skyward Sword for pre-order, it seems that there may be a reason to get excited about a potential port.
This must, of course, be taken with a grain of salt, and by no means guarantees that this is an actual title in development, or that it will actually be coming to the Switch. But it is interesting that someone had to create and post this listing, so the question is “why?”.
Another point that may support this leak is that next year is the 35th anniversary for the Zelda franchise, so Nintendo would surely want to capitalise on this with some form of a Zelda title. Considering 2021 is also the 10th anniversary for Skyward Sword itself, perhaps this could be it.
There is not a lot of major games confirmed for the Switch for next year, and we do know that sometimes Nintendo does like to drop a surprise release date for titles during their Nintendo Direct’s, so fingers crossed this could be one of the future announcements.
Would you like to see Skyward Sword ported to the Switch? And if so, what changes or additions would you hope are included?
