Fans of old school games have something to be super duper excited about today as Konami has released a number of their classic games to PC! The releases include Metal Gear, Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2 Substance, Castlevania and Contra. The latter include Castlevania, Castlevania II: Simon’s Quest, Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse, Contra and Super C. All of these can be purchased via the GOG website.

Metal Gear was originally released on PC back in 1987, but this is the first time that the original titles in the series have been available via a modern digital storefront. The original, which has since spawned a franchise that has sold over 55 million copies, has been credited to have introduced stealth to gameplay over all-out-attacks. It was given a Nintendo port for Australian gamers in 1989.

Castlevania was released in 1986 on the NES. It is considered to be one of Konami’s most successful and biggest-selling franchises. The platformer saw players embody Simon Belmont, a man from a long line of vampire hunters who travels to Dracula’s abode, Castlevania. Here he destroys vampires with his whip the “Vampire Killer.” The final objective is to kill the big man, Dracula, himself. The game has also been made into a Netflix animated series back in 2017 and due to its popularity, has been greenlighted for a fourth season due out in 2021.

Contra was originally an arcade game that was released in 1987 and came out on the NES in 1988. The two-player game is set in 2633 AD and is a side scroller that takes place on the fictional Galuga Archipelago, a group of islands close to New Zealand. The two protagonists are members of the Earth Marine Corp’s Contra unit, Bill and Lance, and they must go to the island and destroy all the alien baddies and find out their secrets.

If you’re interested in any of these titles, they are now available to purchase via the GOG website.
