Love gaming and keen for a bigger insight into the industry? PRESS RESET: Ruin and Recovery in the Video Game Industry is a non-fiction book all about what happens when game studios shut down.
The book is written by journalist Jason Schreier, who you’ll know for his many exposés on crunch in AAA game dev studios, writing them both at Kotaku prior and Bloomberg currently. It’s Schreier himself who has teased the news for some time only to finally reveal a title and release date this week via a tweet.
My next book is PRESS RESET: Ruin and Recovery in the Video Game Industry, coming May 11, 2021.
It's a book about what happens to people when video game studios shut down, including stories from Irrational, Visceral, 38 Studios, and more.

Following on from Jason Schreier’s prior book Blood, Sweat and Pixels, this new entry will put some new companies under the microscope. According to its listing on Grand Central Publishing, we’ve got quite the gripping read on our hands. The closure of the now defunct Irrational, Visceral and 38 Studios are just some of the companies the book will be following. Dozens of first-hand interviews will cover the development on grand games such as Bioshock Infinite, Epic Mickey, Dead Space, and more. Hostile takeovers, abusive bosses and corporate drama will all also be covered.
PRESS RESET: Ruin and Recovery in the Video Game Industry will release on May 11 2021 in ebook, audiobook and traditional book form. The best place to preorder the book for Australian audiences in the meantime is (unfortunately) Amazon. Are you in for a new juicy read on the games industry?
