Revealed during The Game Awards 2020 was a new trailer, debut gameplay footage, release date and even a closed alpha date for Back 4 Blood. The game is coming to us from Turtle Rock Studios who you may know as the developers of Evolve. Although dedicated fans may also know them as the original team behind Left 4 Dead before Valve brought the studio under their wing to continue development.
Back 4 Blood is unapologetically a Left 4 Dead clone. And if I’m being honest, they are probably the only studio outside of Valve who can make a Left 4 Dead clone without raising concerns. It’s been over 10 years since Left 4 Dead released after all, so this is a game fans have been craving. You can check out the reveal trailer below.
Alongside the cinematic trailer above, we also saw debut gameplay released. It was actually quite exciting to see with some very clear Left 4 Dead influences. A safe house, special infected, molotov cocktails, 4 players co-op and even the name all screamed of Left 4 Dead. However the game clearly has its own ideas too. The kind of special infected we saw seemed quite unique, with one specific moment of gameplay showing a big beast erupt from the ground before chasing the players down a tunnel. More obvious weak points were also apparent on the infected which could make for some fun gunplay.
You can check the gameplay demo below!
We now know that Back 4 Blood is set to release June 22, 2021 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. A closed alpha of the game is arriving December 17 this year so excited players can sign up and be hopefully playing real soon! You can register interest and find out more on the official website.
