The Last Story was an RPG originally released in Japan in 2011, which means this year marks the 10th anniversary for the beloved title. To celebrate this occasion, Hironobu Sakaguchi, the games Director took to Twitter to release some concept art for the title.
The Last Story received acclaim upon release on the Wii for its gameplay and classic RPG mechanics, along with the music that was composed by Nobuo Uematsu. A truly beautiful RPG, that is one of the most requested from Switch owners to be ported to the console as was recently done with Xenoblade Chronicles.
The concept art for The Last Story that Sakaguchi released on Twitter is by artist Kimihiko Fujisaka and is incredibly gorgeous, offering some further looks into the early design stages for the game and characters. We have included some of our favourites below, but there is much more to see on his Twitter account.

And if the name of Sakaguchi sounds familiar, then that’s probably because he is the creator of the incredibly popular Final Fantasy series. Sakaguchi’s development studio Mistwalker also created some other beloved RPG’s such as Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey, but now they seem to mostly focus their time on developing titles for iOS and Android with the Terra series.
Either way, it is always a treat to see a behind the scenes look at how some games might have started with their development, and how they have changed from the final product, case in point The Last Story.
