Cyberpunk 2077 and CD Projekt are back in the news again today, but this time for completely different reasons. The company has found themselves as the target of a cyberattack where hackers have taken crucial data and are threatening to leak that data if CD Projekt doesn’t meet their demands.
The data in question doesn’t appear to be any personal information from players or staff, which is good. Although it does appear to include source code for multiple games as well as internal documentation relating to accounting, administration, legal, HR, investor relations and more. The full ransom note can be seen below.
CD Projekt has responded with a public statement, affirming that they have indeed been hacked but that they will not be giving in to demands. They’ve also contacted proper authorities and will be helping to facilitate the investigation into who these hackers are in any way they can.
You can see the company’s full statement below.
No matter what your opinion is on Cyberpunk 2077 or even CD Projekt themselves, it should be clear that the company doesn’t deserve to be the target of a cyberattack. The threat is serious and CD Projekt appears to be handling it as maturely as possible.
As for what will come of all this is still yet to be seen.
