2020 horror game Maid of Sker has seen a surprise update this past week. The game that was previously a stealth experience with little means of defence now is offering the players to fight back. Developer Wales Interactive have announced a first person shooter mode, allowing for players to wield a series of powerful weapons in order to send those things that go bump in the night right back to where they came from.
If gamers are at all familiar with Maid of Sker, their memory will harken back to the limited means of combat the game offered. Instead of taking foes head on, the game relied on you sneaking around them or using a mechanical orb that emits a sonic sound to stun them in moments of tension. Now, new levels are purposed in this free update for PC players. You’ll face both new foes and some familiar ones. At your disposal will be some generously powerful weaponry. Axes, revolvers, shotguns and grenade launchers are just some of how to take on the big baddies. Finally, a fighting chance.
This isn’t the first time a horror game has gotten a bit experimental in post release updates. Four months after its release, The Evil Within 2 saw an update that let players play the game in first person.
The FPS challenge mode update for Maid of Sker is available now for PC players via Steam. Console players will have to wait a little longer. Though, Wales Interactive assures the update is on the way.
