Anticipated indie Sable nabs a September 23 release date

Posted on June 11, 2021

Sable is one of those games that has been a bit elusive. It’s been at a number of indie conferences for the past few years, and no doubt due to COVID, it has been hard to get any kind of concrete information regarding the game’s release. Well, praise be unto Geoff Keighly, because we now have a release date of September 23, 2021.

The game has this mysterious air to it all. You are Sable, charting across a vast desert landscape. Players take her through the Gliding – “a rite of passage that will take her across vast deserts and mesmerizing landscapes, capped by the remains of spaceships and ancient wonders.”

The real sell for a lot of gamers will be how it immediately distinguishes its art style. The game has this very distinctive cell-shading to it. There’s a real warmth to the colour palette that really reflects the desert environment. Of course, the music is also equally impressive. The announcement was preceded by a wonderful performance by Japanese Breakfast. The indie rock band headed up by Michelle Zauner will be creating an original score for the game.

I did not really know that much about the band but suffice to say, I plan to know everything I can after the fantastic performance. I cannot wait to sink my teeth into Sable when it releases this September.
