It’s time to return to the Battlefield! The world’s worst kept secret, Battlefield 2042 is real and it’s here. The reveal trailer shows us quite a lot of in-game destruction, future technology, robot dogs, and tornadoes. More is set to be revealed on June 13th, providing us an in-depth look at real-time gameplay footage.
There is quite a lot to unpack here, but can we first give a shout-out to the ejector rocket launcher kill taking place in an official Battlefield trailer? The world of Battlefield has certainly changed, as Battlefield 2042 seems to be the chronological bridge between different worlds of Battlefield. Warfare still looks to be explosive as ever, with an added twist of what looks to be climate events; such as tornadoes ravaging the area during firefights. With the game confirmed to be only multiplayer with no campaign, it seems to add that extra bit of chaos that will do wonders to spice up matches.
An array of combat theatres are shown off as well. Everything from jet aerial combat, fighting across frozen glaciers, or skirmishing around a space rocket launch pad, there seems to be a heavy sense of map variety as well as how each map evolves and changes over the course of play. Similar map changes could be found in past games such as Battlefield 4, but this latest entry seems to not only double down on the concept but go a lot crazier with its execution.
The full gameplay reveal will be happening on June 13th, 2021, but Battlefield 2042 is scheduled to release on October 22nd for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, along with current-gen consoles Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5.
