During EA Play Live 2021, a surprising announcement of a new community-driven experience with the upcoming Battlefield 2042 shows that EA may still know what makes multiplayer shooters fun.
Battlefield Portal is an all-new mode where armies of defibrillator-wielding medics will take on battalions of knife-wielding soldiers. Where an entire server of repair droids will team up to defeat one powerful tank. Where C4 strapped to land cruisers will launch into flying carriers for absolute mayhem.
The short video showcasing some of this outstanding gameplay has certainly got the attention of Battlefield fans and those on the fence. Check it out for yourself and figure out if you want to take part in chaotic carnage.
On the Battlefield 2042 website, an official blog post goes into more detail about the exciting customisable game mode. It includes a Logic Editor that allows players to mix and match conditions like victory settings, usable and banned weapons or equipment, and even combine armies from different eras and Battlefield games. A bit like an official Battlefield OC creator.
“Battlefield Portal is a community-driven platform within Battlefield 2042 that will let you create and find fantastic experiences made by the series’ creative and passionate community. The creation suite includes Settings, custom modes, and a Logic Editor so you can build your own signature spin on Battlefield’s sandbox; you’ll be able to change team ratios, tweak victory conditions, restrict weapons, and even put different factions from different eras in Battlefield’s history against one another. Those who want to focus on discovering what others have created will have easy access to an entire world of unexpected battles featuring some of the series’ most famous eras mashed together in distinct, exciting experiences.”
Battlefield Portal unfortunately has no ties to the popular Valve games, although there seems to be some parallel between it and Halo Forge or Call of Duty customisable matches. The focus here is “community experiences”, aiming to recreate the nostalgic memories of old-school FPS and private server mods by providing the tools to do so. Think bonkers Team Fortress 2 servers or even modded Battlefield 2 matches from decades ago.
The mode also includes older weaponry, vehicles, specialists, and even a returning roster of maps from classic Battlefield games, including:
- Battle Of The Bulge (Battlefield 1942)
- El Alamein (Battlefield 1942)
- Arica Harbor (Battlefield: Bad Company 2)
- Valparaiso (Battlefield: Bad Company 2)
- Caspian Border (Battlefield 3)
- Noshahr Canals (Battlefield 3)
It’s fair to say Battlefield Portal is truly a fans paradise. Throwing this into the entire Battlefield 2042 package and this shooter might be a contender for best of the year. Stay tuned to our website and social pages to read more about Battlefield news as it strikes.
