Fans of 2019’s Pokémon: Detective Pikachu film are in for some good news. A new live-action run of Pokémon is in the works over at Netflix. This time, it’s a series. Let the good times roll.
While the information on the series is still a bit lacking, Variety has broken the report and confirmed some details. Joe Henderson, the executive producer and co-showrunner of the Netflix series Lucifer, will take up the mantle of the writer and executive producer of this Pokémon series.
It also seems comparisons to Detective Pikachu wouldn’t be far off either. Sources close to the project state that the series will be “akin” to the 2019 film starring Justice Smith and Ryan Reynolds. If the box office for that film is of any indication, this could very well be a hit for Netflix also.
This upcoming Pokémon series won’t be the first time Netflix has dipped their toes into the beloved franchise. Pokémon Journeys: The Series and a CG remake of the series’ first film, now titled Pokémon: Mewtwo Strikes Back — Evolution debuted in the past year.
Knowing that, it’s safe to say the series in good hands and Netflix is as fitting a platform as ever to release on. Are you keen on a new Pokémon series?
