It’s been quite some time since publisher SEGA and developer Relic Entertainment have made a brand new Company of Heroes game. In fact, we haven’t seen a new entry in the hugely popular RTS franchise since 2013’s Company of Heroes 2. And whilst that game has definitely seen a lot of post-release content to keep the player base happy, we’re still long overdue for a proper sequel.
Company of Heroes 3 was announced with a cinematic trailer (seen below) and the ability to sign up for the ability to participate in the game’s pre-alpha preview. The website describes COH3 as “next generation action”, “award winning tactics” and “addictive layers of strategy”. There’s also a Steam page ready for anybody who wants to jump in, wishlist the title, and check out some early screenshots.
“Overwhelm your opponents with new and familiar factions, units, and international Battlegroups. Command ground, air and naval forces and build supply lines to crush enemy advances on the new Dynamic Campaign Map – no two playthroughs are ever alike! Play at your own pace across campaign and skirmish modes before diving into blistering multiplayer action. Discover the untold stories of a stunning Mediterranean theatre, featuring next generation destructible environments, all powered by Relic’s proprietary Essence Engine.”
For those more interested in the gameplay of Company of Heroes 3, we’ve also been graced by ~3 minutes of heavily edited gameplay for the upcoming strategy release that can be seen here. Playing in Germany occupied Italy, COH3 looks to be a promising new series entrant. On show in the trailer is plenty of new destruction and explosion effects that will hopefully work to immerse the player into the battlefield.
We don’t yet have a release date for Company of Heroes 3, but we’ll certainly be keeping an ear out for more details as soon as possible.
