Bassmaster Fishing 2022 is due for release soon and Dovetail games have just announced their multiplayer plans for the title. Interestingly, it is set to include ‘Bassmaster Royale’ which they describe as an adrenaline pumping experience, pitting players against each other to stay above a ‘cut line’ to avoid being eliminated from the game. For me, fishing and of course fishing games feel like a relaxing experience, but this looks like it could be extreme.
Bassmaster 2022 features Cross-Play across all platforms, so there should be no shortage of likeminded fisherman/fisherwoman/fisherfolk to get out on the water with. Fishing games in general have a quiet popularity as well so there are probably more people excited to have a go then you might think. In Bassmaster Royale, you and the other players will start at a random point on the map and then you will have to race to your favourite fishing spot.
Dovetail aren’t clear about how many players would be in a session, but it sounds to me like there will be carnage on the water. I don’t know if the boats take damage from crashes or if you can run into people whilst they are fishing, but time will tell. That said, I would imagine the Bassmaster 2022 target audience who just enjoy the scenery and calm might be respectful of each other, who knows. I myself am partial to the odd fishing game over the years, so it might be worth checking out just to see what its like on the water.
Bassmaster Fishing 2022 arrives on the Xbox and PlayStation families of consoles along with PC on 28 October; it is also available day one via Xbox Game Pass so I might see you out there!
