The devs behind Sonic Mania are making a 3D platformer

Evening Star, a studio that is comprised of many of the same developers who worked on Sonic Mania, have announced their debut game. Although they haven’t announced… well, anything much about it, we do know it will be a 3D platformer that looks to star a cute mascot. They teased this mascot in their announcement, which appears to be a small and child-like figure wielding a weapon of some kind. If I had to guess, I’d say it’s a yo-yo, but of course there’s no way to be sure. I’m also wondering whether the character’s pointy head are ears or a hat.

Evening Star’s team is headed by Christan Whitehead, the lead designer of Sonic Mania. Before then, he assisted with porting Sonic 1 and 2, plus Sonic CD to modern platforms. Whitehead and his team is responsible for Sonic Mania’s success as one of the best Sonic games in recent years. It’s very exciting that we’ll be seeing something else from the same developers, even if it’s a different genre. Here’s hoping the Evening Star team can pull off a more graceful transition to 3D platforming that the Blue Blur has managed so far!
